High Court Rules Israel Can Hold Terrorist Bodies for Hostage Negotiations
Israel’s High Court has ruled that the state can withhold the bodies of terrorists, including Israeli citizens, to use as bargaining chips in hostage negotiations with Hamas. This decision follows the death of Walid Daqqa, an Israeli citizen and terrorist who died in April while serving a 38-year sentence for killing an IDF soldier. The court cited a September decision extending military authority under a 1945 regulation to withhold terrorists’ bodies. Arab rights organizations have condemned the ruling as a “brutal policy.”
