— 🇺🇸/🇦🇫 NEW: A prisoner exchange between the United States and the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan took place in the final hours of the Biden Administration
Americans Ryan Corbett and William Wallace McKenty were exchanged for Afghan citizen Khan Mohammed, who was captured in Afghanistan in 2008, however he was jailed in the US prison system, being the first person to be convicted under ‘narco-terrorism’ laws.
It is believed two other US citizens are currently jailed in Afghanistan, while 1 member of the Afghan Taliban remains imprisoned at Guantanamo Bay. President Donald Trump has in the past criticized prisoner swaps.
