During his June 27–29 stay, Gibson joined Orthodox liturgies, spoke with Serbian monks, and received blessings from Abbot Metodije. He expressed that he had “never felt such a strong connection with God anywhere” as he did at Hilandar. His visit—coinciding with the Vidovdan holiday—was also part of spiritual preparation for his upcoming film Resurrection.
