Geographic flexibility.
Temperatures exceed 45 degrees in certain regions of the South of Algeria, the question of the school calendar resurfaces. The local deputy, Saliha Kachi (MSP), elected from the constituency of El Meghaïer, challenged, this Wednesday, officially the Minister of National Education, Mohamed Seghir Saâdaoui, stressing the “imperative” need to adapt the date of the school year to extreme climatic realities of the southern country.
As the start of the 2025-2026 school year, the Ministry of National Education had published, last Sunday, the official calendar of the start of the 2025-2026 school year. It provides for the resumption of work for administrative staff on Tuesday, August 26, that of teachers on Sunday September 7 and the return to the students’ class from Wednesday September 10, 2025.
In response, the parliamentarian pleaded for a “geographic flexibility” in the development of the national school calendar. In her request, Saliha Kachi has relayed the concerns of many parents of students from the wilayas of the South Great, who fear the effects of overwhelming heat on the learning conditions of their children. “Students in these regions continue their education in particularly difficult climatic conditions, with temperatures exceeding 45 ° C during the day,” she said, calling for concrete measures to preserve their well-being.
The deputy also suggested a return to a formula already applied in the past, it is that of “a back -to -school delayed in the south”, making it possible to avoid periods of high heat, especially in the middle of the day.
In this context, the same official hopes to “see this revised date in order to guarantee equal opportunities and favorable learning conditions for children in the South, emphasizing, in particular, on scientific, social and environmental studies, with the aim of rightly improving performance indicators and raising the quality of education”.
In short, the date of the 2025-2026 school recovery is deemed “too early” for the southern regions by the deputy Kachi, who claims a revision, taking into account local climatic realities, with the authorities concerned.
