Algeria Telecom announced the introduction of the English language to its invoices and payment received. From now on, these documents will be denominated exclusively in Arabic and English, in place of French marking a linguistic transition in the processing of services offered by the national operator. This was indicated this Saturday a statement from the company.
“In a rapidly changing sector and increasingly open internationally, this initiative of Algeria Telecom aims to improve the experience of its customers thanks to the progressive adoption of the Shakespeare language in these official documents. It thus meets the expectations of an increasingly important fringe of its customers, in particular expatriates, multinationals, foreign students and nationals, as well as English -speaking professionals, “said the press release.
Moreover, “this measure is part of a continuous dynamic of modernization and in a desire to comply with international standards in terms of communication and transparency,” said the company. This is also a concrete response to changes in the telecommunications sector, more and more turned towards digitalization and overall opening, still according to the same source.
The introduction of English on invoices is not a first. It follows other similar initiatives, including the posting of an English -speaking version of the official Algeria Telecom site, already accessible to users.
For Algeria Telecom, this linguistic turn is considered a strategic lever to strengthen the quality of the service and support technological changes in the country. It should be noted that invoicing in English is being generalized even in other sectors.
Among the customers, there are some who say they do not master, or even not know at all English for not having studied it. Others, of the old generation who have studied neither Arabic nor English, say they are a little lost when they receive their invoices and are forced to call someone else to understand the details. Which sometimes annoys them to have to show their bills to others.
English speakers have already found that the English used in correspondence and public documents is full of errors or the translation generated by Google Translate. An Englishman who does not correspond to English in no way used in Britain or the United States.
Yamina, 72, a former teacher in Algiers-Ouest, admits that she is sometimes confused by these changes. According to her, it would have been desirable that the change is gradually being made in a society where citizens or difficulty in mastering the official language.
