The Israeli Minister of Finance, Bezalel Smotrich, a fascist, racist and messianic figure of the Israeli far right, voted against the new plan of conquest of Ghaza, believing that he is not going far enough. Opposed to any partial agreement with Hamas, he demanded a total takeover of the Gaza Strip and openly advocates “the erasure of the Palestinian State” by resettlement of the colonies dismantled during the withdrawal of 2005, both in Gaza and in the occupied West Bank. For him, “correct the sin of Gaza” goes through the annexation and the total colonization of the Palestinian territories. During an interview with the press of his party, Smotrich confirmed to work in the reconstruction of the illegal colonies of Ganim and Kadim, as well as Sa-Nur and Homesh, dismantled after the disengagement of 2005. A policy which extends the strategy of the colonists aimed at engraving the occupation in marble and preventing any Palestinian state prospect. On the ground, his declarations feed an already explosive climate. The photo taken during his visit to Sa-Nur shows, alongside him, a tagged pillar “death to the Arabs”, a freezing symbol of his racialist ideology and his apartheid project. Smotrich does not hide wanting to capitalize on the trauma of October 7 to accelerate colonization and permanently anchor an apartheid regime.
This posture illustrates the fascist drift which today dominates Israeli power: an assumed colonial project, which is no longer content to deny the national rights of the Palestinian people, but claims their outright erasure, at the cost of a real genocide. By relying on a messianic religious discourse and uninhibited racism, Smotrich embodies a policy that does not seek peace, but total victory through dispossession and domination. His statements confirm that, for this ultra-nationalist fringe, October 7 is not a tragedy to avoid, but an opportunity to be exploited to impose a new order based on annexation, apartheid and the destruction of the Palestinian people.
