The official visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Abdisalam Abdi Ali, in Algeria, at the invitation of the Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, the National Community abroad and African Affairs, Ahmed Attaf, from August 9 to 11, was sanctioned by a joint statement which highlights the will of the two countries countries, to strengthen them and develop them in various fields.

This visit is part of “the implementation of the content of the letter addressed by President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud to his brother, President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, and transmitted by the Somalian Councilor and Shipping of the Somali President during his visit to Algiers on November 21, 2024”, specifies the press release. During this visit, the Somali Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation was received by Prime Minister Nadir Larbaoui, to whom he submitted a written message addressed to President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, on the part of his brother, the President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud. In addition, Ahmed Attaf and Abdisalam Abdi Ali held a discussion session during which they reviewed the state of bilateral relations between the two brothers countries, as well as the means of strengthening them and developing them in various fields, before proceeding to an exchange of views on the main questions of common interest at the Arab, African and international level.

Concerning bilateral relations, the two ministers agreed to the creation of a mixed ministerial commission in charge of files relating to cooperation and partnership, and a political consultation mechanism between the two countries, the two bodies having to keep their first meetings as soon as possible, in addition to the training of diplomats. For regional, continental and international news issues, the two parties are agreed to intensify consultation and strengthen coordination between the two countries within the United Nations Security Council, in particular with regard to issues concerning the Arab world and Africa, and this, in their capacity as non -permanent members of this UN body representing Arab and African groups. Regarding the Palestinian cause, the two parties are agreed to support the inalienable and imprescriptable law of the Palestinian People Brother to establish their independent and sovereign state on the borders of 1967 with Al-Quds for capital, as stipulated in international resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative.
