USMA : Benchikha, c’est presque fait !

The USM Alger is about to finalize the return of Abdelhak Benchikha at the head of his technical staff. After rounds of negotiations, the former coach of JS Kabylia gave his agreement in principle to Said Allik, general manager of the club. Management is currently preparing for its contract, which Benchikha should sign in the coming hours.

Free of any commitment since last May after his departure from Modern Sport, the Egyptian club which he managed to maintain in D1 at the end of the season, Abdelhak Benchikha got along with the leaders of the USMA on the main lines of his return. There is now only the official signature to seal its comeback. This is expected this Monday, according to an internal source at the club. This reversal comes after the failure of negotiations with several foreign coaches, including the Franco-Malian Éric Chelle. The too high financial requirements of targeted profiles have pushed Allik to turn to a more accessible but just as credible option: Benchikha, nicknamed the “general”, a well -known figure of the club.

Benchikha’s choice is explained by several factors: his rigor, his authority, his knowledge of the club and his past results. During his visit between January and October 2023, he had offered the USMA a historic African double, by winning the CAF Cup and then the CAF Super Cup. Despite an end of adventure precipitated by a series of mixed results, he retained a respected status in Soustara. Benchikha should not have difficulty working with the staff in place. He knows well the physical trainer Modjahed Belaïd and the goalkeeper coach Lyès Benhaha, which the management wishes to keep. Hadj Adlane, already a member of his staff in 2023, could also accompany him.
