Eleven people, aged 14 to 86, were victims, on Saturday morning, of carbon monoxide poisoning in a building in the Tijdit district, in Mostaganem. Raised quickly by civil protection, they were evacuated to the hospital in a state deemed stable. This was indicated by a press release from civil protection.
The rescue services of the wilaya of Mostaganem intervened yesterday around 9:30 am after they were reported to them a gas poisoning in a accommodation located in a building in the Tijdit district.
Eleven people, men and women, aged between 14 and 86, had inhaled carbon monoxide from the kitchen of their home, adds the same source.
The operation required the mobilization of three intervention units, four ambulances and a fire truck. The victims were taken care of on site by the port units, Amirouche and the main unit, before their transfer to the medical emergency department of the Mostaganem hospital. Their state of health is deemed stable.
At the end of this intervention, the Directorate of Civil Protection renewed its call to citizens for the regular verification of cooking and heating devices, gas pipes as well as the maintenance of ventilation openings in the dwellings, concludes the press release.
Recall that it barely a week ago, the wilaya of Mostaganem has already been mourned by a similar drama. The help of the Kharrouba unit intervened in an emergency, at 6:54 p.m., in the El Wiam district, where a man and a woman tragically lost her life after inhaling carbon monoxide released by a defective water heater.
Despite the speed of the intervention, the two victims were found lifeless and transferred to the morgue of the Mostaganem hospital.
This new incident, which occurred just a few days after this previous drama, once again recalls the danger of carbon monoxide and the importance of respecting the prevention instructions issued by civil protection.
