L’Afrique du Sud réaffirme son soutien indéfectible – Le Jeune Indépendant

The Sahrawi people are not alone in their fight for autonomy, this is the message that South Africa reaffirmed, on the sidelines of the African Water Summit which is held in Cape Town. True to its historical commitment against colonialism, Pretoria once again defended the inalienable right of the Sahrawi people to self -determination and independence.

The Declaration of South Africa was made at the meeting held between the Sahrawi delegation and the South African Minister of Water and Sanitation Bibi Magodina, reported the Sahraouie news agency (SPS).

In this regard, the South African Minister has reaffirmed Pretoria’s desire to establish a “concrete” partnership with the Sahraouie Republic, as a priority in water management, while expanding cooperation to other areas of common interest.

In the same context, Adda Ibrahim Ahmime, Sahrawi Minister of Water and the Environment, reiterated the importance of consolidating this bilateral cooperation. He also called to expand partnership beyond the hydraulic sector, with a view to responding to the pressing challenges faced by the Arab Republic of Democratic Sahrawi.

It should be noted that the same Sahrawi official, moreover, recalled that this summit is held in a particularly difficult context for his people, always confronted with the occupation and the reduction of international aid. Despite this, he said that the Sahrawi government is deploying an “global” action plan based on the increase in production, strengthening storage capacities and the guarantee of equitable access to water for all citizens.

Intervening in turn, the South African Minister of Water and Sanitation underlined the imperative need to grant more support to countries and peoples with limited means, with the ambition to finance vital projects and adopt sustainable strategies to guarantee safe access to water in Africa.

Thus, the meeting of Cape Town brought out, beyond the declarations of principle, the concrete commitment of South Africa alongside the Saharawi people, reflecting a united and active will for the benefit of a people in search of justice and dignity.
