Prevention of forest fires
Extreme heat waves are often accompanied by forest fires. The Ministry of the Interior, Local Authorities and Regional Planning called on Monday, citizens to show consciousness and follow the prevention instructions for forest fires and harvests. The ministry underlined, in its press release, the importance of “showing conscience, following the prevention instructions and collaborating with the competent authorities, by immediately reporting urgently via the numbers 10-21 and 10-70”.
These prevention instructions intervene in a context marked by “an increase in temperatures, which increases the risk of fires, considered to be real threat for lives, goods and natural and agricultural resources”. These instructions are very timely appointed in a summer and scorching context conducive to forest fires. Indeed, fires have declared themselves in certain wilayas. Civil protection teams are fully mobilized to combat frequent forest fires during the summer period. They continued their operations yesterday on the ground to extinguish the forest and bush fires which still rage in several wilayas, while others have been completely mastered. According to a report by the Directorate General for Civil Protection, fire fighting teams were still at work yesterday against several fires in several wilayas. Thus, in Annaba, the extinguishing operations of a forest and bush fire in the Bouhdid region continued.
In Sétif, efforts were underway to master a forest fire in the Oued Souka region. Extinction operations were also underway in Tipaza, where a forest fire broke out in the region of Bordj El Ghoul. At the same time, in Jijel, the civil protection teams led a patrol after having extinguished a bush fire in the region of Ouled Ali Djebel El Kouf, in order to avoid any recovery. On the other hand, the fire fighting teams were able to completely extinguish several other fires. In Tizi Ouzou, a forest fire was mastered in the village of Aït Issad.
In Jijel, a forest fire was extinguished in the Larbaa region. These efforts confirm the mobilization of civil protection teams and their commitment to protect Algerian forest resources. They also highlight the importance of vigilance operations to avoid the reappearance of fires. We know that strict measures have been taken by forest conservations to prevent forest fires and if they occur to circumscribe them as quickly as possible.
