« Des logements d’astreinte et de fonction dans le secteur de la santé font défaut »

“Package and function housing in the health sector are lacking”

Medea

In Médéa, the penalty accommodation and the official accommodation have become a reserved luxury … to those who do not need it. This dossier, which has been dragging on the drawers of the Directorate of Health and the Population (DSP) for years, is increasingly similar to a real affair of favoritism and injustice. In theory, these dwellings are allocated to allow doctors to ensure the permanence of care and to intervene quickly in an emergency. In practice, it’s quite the opposite. There are penalty accommodation transformed into small comfortable villas, occupied by people already owners of real estate. The height: some beneficiaries even combine two function dwellings while exercising … out of the wilaya of Médéa! Meanwhile, specialist doctors, essential to the local health system, find themselves forced to commute every day between Médéa, Blida or Algiers. Tens of kilometers swallowed daily, to the detriment of their availability and the quality of the service to citizens. An aberration that highlights the laxity and opacity of the management of this dossier. This unjust situation is not only an administrative problem: it weakens the health system as a whole. How many young specialists are now refusing to join Médéa for lack of accommodation? How many patients wait longer to be taken care of, because the doctor supposed to be “on -call” is blocked on the road? On-penalty and functional accommodation, supposed to be a tool at the service of public health, has turned into privilege for some. It can no longer last. A serious, independent and transparent survey is necessary to put an end to these abuses and restore these accommodation to those who really need them: doctors and executives in the wilaya. Public health is too serious a matter to be sacrificed on the altar of the passers and doubtful arrangements. Médéa deserves better, its patients too.
