Under the slogan “Memory of Immortals”, Oran celebrated the National Mujahid Day on Wednesday, in tribute to the founding events of August 20, 1955 and 1956, which marked a decisive turning point in the liberation struggle. In Arzew and Sidi Benyebka, Wali Samir Chibani led a program combining meditation, inaugurations and project launches, and this in a spirit of loyalty to martyrs and projection to the future.
The national day of the mujahideen, which recalls the double memory of the attacks in the North-Constantine of 1955 and the Soummam Congress in 1956, was commemorated through several official activities in the wilaya of Oran.
The ceremony started in Arzew with a moment of meditation in place of 18-February, where local authorities bowed to the memory of martyrs. The national anthem was overcome before the deposit of a wreath of flowers and the reading of Fatiha, in homage to the sacrifices of the heroes of the Revolution.
On the sidelines of ceremonies, an exhibition of historical photographs retracing the major stages of the Revolution was organized. The wali took part before presideing a ceremony of distinction in tribute to the mujahideen Mohamed Ledlaâ and Mohamed Sefahi.
Between duty of memory and action on the ground, the day continued with the launch of two housing projects. The Wali first laid the first stone of 300 dwellings in the Martyr Khalifa-Mahmoud district, in the commune of Arzew.
Subsequently, a second project was launched in Sidi Benyebka for the construction of 100 additional dwellings, aimed at meeting the high demand for habitat and improving the living conditions of citizens.
The education sector was also highlighted through the inauguration of the Martyr Ben Zair-Belkacem college in Arzew. The establishment has 24 classrooms, four science laboratories and several specialized spaces, including a computer room. This new school equipment is part of the national school support program and improving study conditions.
Awards have also been awarded to the winners of local sports competitions as well as to presidents of three clubs who won the accession to regional divisions.
