Preserve natural gas as an essential energy: Algeria reiterates its commitment

For a balanced energy transition.

An essential player in the energy market, mainly on the world gas market, Algeria intends to play this role. The country says it is committed to continuing to work, alongside the member states of the forum of the gas exporters of the gas (GECF Gas exporting country forum), and to promote steps for a fair and balanced energy transition, while preserving the role of natural gas.

This is reaffirmed by the Minister of State, Minister of Energy, Mines and Renewable Energies, Mohamed Arkab, who received, at the headquarters of the ministry, the secretary general of GECF, Mohamed Hamel, with whom he spoke of the evolution of the global gas markets and the contribution of Algeria to the reinforcement of the presence of the forum on the international scene, said the ministry. day.

Arkab has thus reaffirmed “Algeria’s commitment to continue to work, alongside the member states of GECF, and to promote procedures for an equitable and balanced energy transition, while preserving the role of natural gas, as an essential energy in supporting economic growth and sustainable development”.

The Minister of Energy also expressed “the commitment of Algeria to accompany the efforts of the GECF and consolidate its role, as an active and responsible state, in the global energy markets, especially in the field of gas”.

The evolution and the prospects of the global gas markets was addressed by the two parties, which insisted on the need to intensify consultation and the exchange of expertise, in order to guarantee the stability of the markets and to support investments capable of meeting growing demand in this source of energy, at best the interests of producers and consumers, it was added.

This meeting was also an opportunity to review the contribution of Algeria to the activities of the GECF, to strengthen the presence of the forum on the international scene, and to underline the importance of the central role of this organization in the coordination of efforts between member countries and in the response to the challenges experienced by the natural gas sector in the context of accelerated world energy changes.

Towards the membership of new members at GECF

For his part, the secretary general of GECF welcomed the level of cooperation established with Algeria, thereby welcoming his constant contributions in the promotion of the actions of the GECF and the strengthening of his presence, as a platform for coordination and consultation between the Gas Exporting States.

Hamel has also pointed out that the GECF continues to arouse the interest of countries, with the possibility of adherence to new members, capable of strengthening its role as a global platform for coordination and cooperation between gas exporting countries.

During this meeting in which executives of the Ministry of Energy took part, the secretary general of GECF also presented, on behalf of the forum and on his personal name, his “sincere condolences to Algeria, leaders, government and people”, following the accident of falling a bus in Oued El Harrach having caused death to eighteen people, expressing his full solidarity with the families of the victims and prompt recovery to the injured.
