Traffic accidents

It’s the massacre on our roads. Road accidents keep making victims. Our roads have become drama sources for many families. Civil protection assessments report hundreds of bereaved families, highlighting an alarming worsening situation. Urgent measures are essential to strengthen road safety. Repression is an alternative to drivers whose responsibility is proven, especially since the human factor is identified as the main cause of these accidents which mourn families. But also speeding, dangerous overcoming, non-compliance with the highway code, etc. Sanctions should be severe and regular.
Less than a week after the tragic accident of El Harrach which cost the life of 18 people and made 24 injured, a drama that bereaved Algeria, four people died and five others injured, yesterday in Saida, in a new traffic accident involving a means of public transport.
According to civil protection, the accident, a collision between a collective taxi and a van, whose causes are not yet known, occurred early in the morning on the RN 6, at the level of the town of Sidi Ahmed.
The day before, in Sétif, a 22-year-old biker lost his life after hitting the back of a semi-trailer truck on the east-west motorway. His companion who was also on the motorcycle, was injured, reported the same source. Noting that in Mila, seven people, aged 5 to 37, were injured in a pile up on the RN 5, in Tadjoan, involving two cars and a truck. While in the wilaya of Batna, a collision between two cars on the RN 31, at Tazoult, also wounded.
The same day, or, the day before yesterday on Tuesday, the same source, reported 212 interventions, in 24 hours, following several traffic accidents that occurred across national territory, citing among others the wilayas of Tiaret, Jijel and Tizi Ouzou.
“8 people died and 276 others were injured in road accidents, which occurred in the last 24 hours in several wilayas of the country,” said a civil protection statement, published on his site. The civil protection units, continued the same source, carried out 212 interventions following several accidents recorded through several wilayas of the country, having caused the death of 8 people on the spot and the injury of 276 others with various variable gravity injuries.
“The victims were taken care of on site before being transferred by our services to local hospitals,” observed the same source. Finding that the heaviest assessment was recorded in the wilaya of Tiaret with the death of 2 people and the injury of 7 others with various injuries, following 3 traffic accidents.
As part of the surveillance of the beaches authorized for swimming, continued the same source, the civil protection system intervened 902 times, allowing to save 582 people from a certain death. However, two cases of drowning are to be deplored, indicates the results of the last 24 hours.
“The civil protection units carried out 4,188 interventions, one every 20 seconds, in various types of accidents and natural disasters”.
On Saturday, a civil protection press release reported 29 people who died and 585 others injured in road accidents that occurred in recent 48 hours in several wilayas of the country, including the same source, two by drowning in water reserves, in the wilayas of Tlemcen and Misila.
In terms of traffic accidents, the heaviest record was recorded in the wilaya of Algiers with 18 dead and 24 other injured, following the slippage of a passenger transport bus ensuring the deserted Réghaïa-Gare Taffoura, followed by a fall in the El Harrach wadi, said the same source, stressing that important human and material resources have been mobilized to rescue the victims.
