A time for reflection: “August 20, 1956 – August 20, 2025”
True to our history and our martyrs, on this day of August 20, we bow before the memory of men and women who, by their courage and their clairvoyance, forever marked the fate of our homeland.
The Soummam Congress (1956) was not only a meeting of revolutionary leaders, it was a compass for a whole nation in struggle. That day, in the mountains of Kabylia, our martyrs and our leaders have drawn the founding principles of a modern Algerian state: the primacy of politics on the military, the primacy of the interior on the outside and, above all, the affirmation of an Algeria one and indivisible, bringing together all its components. This congress remains both a lesson in internal democracy, proof of political maturity and an oath of loyalty to the national cause. Today, in 2025, our duty is to remember not only debates and resolutions, but also of the spirit that inspired them: the spirit of sacrifice, unity and clairvoyance. If we have today a state, a flag, a national anthem and a dearly acquired independence, it is thanks to these milestones laid by our glorious elders. To give tribute to August 20 is to reaffirm our attachment to a strong, sovereign, united Algeria and always faithful to the oath of our valiant chouhada. That is to say loud and clear that, despite the tests and the criticisms, Algeria advances and will continue to move forward. Glory to our cabbage! Eternity to Soummam! Force to our people and unity to our nation! An only Son of Chahid!
