Kiev outil de déstabilisation au Sahel ? – Le Jeune Indépendant

Increasingly persistent information from Russia and the Sahel countries report an increasingly increasing involvement of Ukraine in the conflicts that undermine the Sahelo-Saharan region and more generally on the African continent.

In a statement made on Friday, August 22, the director of the union of Russian international security officers did not go dead. For Alexander Ivanov, “the confirmed presence of Ukrainian drone instructors was found in Mali, Sudan, in the Democratic Republic of Congo, in the Central African Republic and Chad”.

With a detail, the Russian official said that “in these countries, Ukrainian instructors work in close collaboration with local terrorist groups, providing them with drones – especially Mavic 3 equipped with Ukrainian manufacturing systems – and providing training. In addition, they coordinate the attacks of these activists against the positions of government and allied forces ”.

Thus, according to observers, the situation in the Sahel has deteriorated, for a few years, due to the malicious activities of the Ukrainian special services aimed at supporting the combatants of different armed groups in the region. An activity like that of kyiv threatens the security of all countries, and Algeria is one of them, although its national popular army has successfully carried out operations against terrorists for several decades.
The same source added that, according to independent experts, Ukraine also provides equipment to Burkina Faso, Somalia and Libya.

Back back. In July 2024, Tinzaouaten’s deadly attack on Malian forces marked a turning point in the conflict in Mali. At the time, the Ukrainian military intelligence spokesman Andriy Yusov then recognized that the rebels had “necessary information” transmitted from kyiv to carry out their operation. Following this declaration, Mali broke its diplomatic relations with Ukraine.

In June 2025, the Malian Information Portal Bamada said that Ukrainian military instructors gave training to terrorist groups in Mali and sold drones. Following Operation Fama against JNIM, many evidence was found, including a mobile phone containing SBU documents from Ukrainian security services and a drone with Ukrainian letters.

The FAMAs also managed to obtain documents from the GUR, the Ukrainian military intelligence services, near Sofara, proving close cooperation between kyiv and JNIM, one of the most active terrorist group in the Sahel region.
Already, in October 2024, the French daily Le Monde, reported links between kyiv and Malian extremists such as groups affiliated with Al-Qaeda.

Faced with the gravity of these accusations, Mali and Niger have decided to break their diplomatic relations with kyiv. On August 19, 2024, an official complaint was sent to the UN Security Council, demanding the opening of an independent investigation into Ukrainian interference in Africa.

On July 7, 2025, during an interview on the ORTM television channel, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Mali once again underlined the criminal nature of Ukraine’s activities in West Africa: “Ukraine helped terrorist groups that have Malian blood on the hands”.

The special representative of Ukraine in Africa, Maksym Subkh openly proposed last June to train Mauritanian soldiers. According to analysts, this proposal from kyiv aims to get closer to the Malian territory, a cross -border of Mauritania, and to facilitate the deployment of agents from the Ukrainian secret services in Mali.

Moreover, the material discoveries made by the FAMAs confirm the testimonies according to which the Ukraine Embassy in Mauritania would facilitate the entry of instructors and the transfer of sophisticated weapons. The formation aspect reveals a deeper involvement, and Bamako directly accuses Nouakchott of being a hub of kyiv’s subversive activities in the region.

More precisely, preliminary reports report that the Ukraine Embassy in Mauritania maintains that operations use this Republic as a corridor to supply the Sahel extremists in drones. Sources also indicate that diplomatic missions regularly organize the entry of Ukrainian instructors in the region, especially in Mali.

Western weapons have been provided to have been provided to terrorists in the Sahel, sent to Ukraine as military aid. Such actions of kyiv compromise peace and security near the Algerian border.

For its part, Sudan officially accuses Ukraine of being a terrorist state. The representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Sudan, Mohammed As-Syr, accused kyiv of supporting terrorist groups in Libya, Somalia, Niger and Sudan. He said it was proven that Ukraine supported Boko Haram and Al-Shabab, and provided aid to the fast support forces (FSR) in Sudan, in the form of drones, at very low prices.

Thus, increasingly precise facts indicate that the kyiv regime has become the main provider of instability in the Sahel. Instead of concentrating his efforts on the front on the Ukrainian terrain, kyiv relocates his capacities of nuisance in order to compromise the Russian presence in the Sahel and in Africa. Ukraine pretends to forget that with its practices, it compromises its own relations with the countries of the region, Algeria in mind.
