The loyalty to the memory of martyrs is both a national commitment and a moral duty, argued the Minister of Mujahideen and the Beneaders, Laïd Rebiga, citing the words of the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, during the opening of the national conference organized, this Wednesday at the headquarters of the ministry, entitled “History of loyalty to the memory of martyrs … community ”.
Rebiga affirmed in its opening speech that “it is important to preserve national unity in the face of the enemies of the nation and to fight against their desperate attempts to distort historical facts”. The Minister gave this meeting a deep patriotic and memorial dimension, stressing that the construction of independent and victorious Algeria can only be accomplished through rooting in history and unwavering loyalty to the sacrifice of martyrs. Explaining that the evocation of the past is not an end in itself, it argued that “it is not a question of recalling the past for the past, but of protecting the present from generations and guaranteeing their future by a sincere national will and an unshakable attachment to the values of the revolution”.
He also warned of the dangers of a world where “the stories clash and where memory and history are used as formidable weapons”. In this context, the memory of martyrs is not only an emotional or emotional charge, it constitutes a “red line of sovereignty”, an inviolable border which is an integral part of the foundations of the Algerian State.
Beyond the declarations of principle, the Minister detailed the actions undertaken by the State to protect and enhance national memory by inscribing it in the daily life of the population. Its department has multiplied the actions, in particular through the restoration and maintenance of martyrs’ cemeteries, the construction of commemorative monuments and memory spaces, the systematic integration of national history in educational and training programs, the encouragement of academic research in history and memory, the production of films and audiovisual works devoted to the Liberation War, as well as the regular organization of conferences, scientific meetings and conferences. “These actions demonstrate that memory in Algeria is not an intellectual luxury but an essential component of the strategy of the State,” he said, assuring that this orientation constitutes “a bulwark in the face of threats which aim for internal cohesion and a response to regional and international challenges”.
In addition, Mr. Rebiga has forcefully recalled that national cohesion is the fruit of the colossal sacrifices made by the generations of combatants who released the fatherland, hammering that “the force of the nation draws from the pure blood of the martyrs who irrigated the earth as well as in the collective spirit which animated the liberation struggle”. He insisted that this unit must today be protected against all attempts at division, falsification or rewriting of history.
Declaring that “each citizen is a defense wall against the enemies of Algeria and a living witness of loyalty to the values of November”, he recalled that national cohesion is not an acquired data but a collective responsibility, a “sacred treasure” transmitted by the martyrs and the mujahideen to the successive generations.
Youth called to carry the torch
Then addressing the youth, Mr. Rebiga launched a solemn appeal and supported by these young people who carry the heritage of the Revolution on their shoulders and must be worthy of the sacrifices of their ancestors. “Be up to the glorious past and the sacrifices of the ancestors. It is up to you to protect the inheritance of martyrs and to ensure that their message remains alive, “he urged.
The Minister raised the capital importance of transmitting to young people the history of the Revolution, not as a simple knowledge but as a living heritage, capable of inspiring action and strengthening patriotism. He recalled that the unity and cohesion of the nation are now based on their commitment, their loyalty and their conscience.
In conclusion of his speech, Mr. Rebiga expressed his gratitude to all participants, veterans, researchers and academics for their commitment to the service of memory and national unity. He announced that the meeting would end with tributes paid to a group of mujahide and mujahideen, considered as “living symbols of national memory and unwavering benchmarks of Algerian identity”.
He strongly said that the memory of martyrs is much more than a heritage, “it is the compass of the nation, the base of its sovereignty and the guarantee of its cohesion”. Consequently, fidelity, unity and continuity, these are the watchwords that the Minister wanted to transmit, by calling on the present and future generations to carry the torch of November so that Live and independent Algeria forever live, and inscribe the memory of martyrs at the heart of the present to ensure the future such as a cement of the nation, guarantor of its sovereignty.
