Daren Tang reçu par Attaf à Alger – Le Jeune Indépendant

The Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, the National Community Abroad and African Affairs, Mr. Ahmed Attaf, received this Wednesday, at the headquarters of the ministry on Wednesday, the director general of the World Intellectual Property Organization (OMPI), Mr. Daren Tang, currently on an official visit to Algeria. This was indicated by a press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

This meeting comes within the framework of the official inauguration of the OMPI Regional Office in Algeria, a major event that marks a new stage in cooperation between Algeria and this specialized United Nations agency.

The discussions focused on the ways and means to strengthen bilateral partnership in several strategic areas, in connection with the missions of the OMPI. These include supporting national industrial development policies, the promotion of start-ups and innovation, the valuation of local skills, as well as the protection of national cultural heritage, in the words of the press release.

The opening of this regional office in Algeria reflects the recognition of the growing role that the country plays on the African and international level in terms of technological development and valuation of intellectual property. It also constitutes a regional platform for supporting innovative initiatives carried by young entrepreneurs, researchers and Algerian creators.

As a reminder, the OMPI is one of the 15 specialized agencies of the United Nations system, responsible for promoting intellectual property protection worldwide. Its general manager, Mr. Daren Tang, has committed, since the start of his mandate, to strengthen the inclusion of developing countries in global innovation systems.

Mr. Tang’s visit is therefore part of a dynamic of South-South cooperation, and aims to position Algeria as a regional pole of innovation and creativity, through a strategic partnership with the OMPI.
