The second edition of the Media and Think Tank for South Global Forum was opened this Saturday, September 6 in Kumning in the province of Yunnan in southern China.
More 500 government representatives, media, experts and other delegates take part in this major event in which Algeria has taken part in order to respond to the challenges which are imposed in the global south, in particular the economic inequalities induced by unilateral policies in trade, access to development, armed conflicts in progress, climate change, ecology as well as artificial intelligence preponderant because they are controversial in a world in rapidly changing.
Organized by the Chinese Information Agency Xinhua and the Government of the province of Yunnan, this second edition, which is available under the watchword of setting up initiatives capable of giving a global participation in the making of a just and fair multipolar world, follows that held in November 2024 in Sao Paulo in Brazil.
Algeria is represented by Kamel Mansari, director of publication of the young independent, media signatory of the birth certificate of the South Global Forum in Sao Paulo. The birth of this forum responds to a wish launched by the Chinese president Xi Jinping who called in 2024 the media of the global southern to unite and to consult to represent the voice of the countries of this part of the world, to promote a multipolar, multicultural world and above all oriented towards the promotion of justice and peace.
The concept of a more balanced multipolar world has constituted the central axis of debates between representatives of governments, actors and experts from the media of the Global South present in this edition.
Participants wanted to emphasize that this forum does not have the ambition to transform into an alliance to deal with Western policies and narratives but of a platform for reflection and proposals within a geographic space which represents 42% of GDP in the world.
The fight against disinformation and Fake content generated by artificial intelligence were at the heart of interventions during the first day.
Experts have raised the errors facing the public opinion of the global southern generated by the narratives of the Western mainstream media. It was thus a question of setting up a speech that restores the truth and breaking the hints of manipulation targeting the countries of the global south.
The measures deemed inexpensive by the new American administration mainly in the tariff field, its repercussions on vulnerable countries and on the global trade system, the tensions initiated by this administration with China and other countries are perceived as a real challenge for governments as for the Global South media. Israeli-Palestinian conflicts, between Ukraine and Russia, between Rwanda and Congo as well as the crisis in Sudan were also highlighted in
As long as focal points on dysfunctions and limits of the current global system.
The forum served as a launching ramp of the South Global Media project initiated by the Directorate of the Media of the province of Yunnan, intended to establish cooperation bridges in the field of training and exchanges between media. These exchanges will constitute a bridge between the province and the global southern media.
