Qatar strengthens its presence on the African market.
Among the multiple investment and commercial contracts sealed as part of the 4e Edition of the intra-African trade fair (IATF 2025), closed this Wednesday in Algiers, is distinguished that of an amount of more than $ 1.2 billion signed by Algerian Qatarian Steel (AQS) with the Development Bank Shelter Africa, it is added to other agreements concluded with several African countries.
Already present in Africa, the AQS company, which is the fruit of a strategic partnership between Algeria and Qatar, will further strengthen its presence on the African market, thus establishing itself as a major player in the steel industry on a continental scale. The IATF came to strengthen this position, because the company AQS was able to win several export contracts from its products to many African countries for a total amount of $ 420 million. AQS products will be marketed at the western African markets, in Libya and Nigeria, thanks to the partnerships concluded. The most important agreement signed is that concluded with the Shelter Africa bank worth more than $ 1.2 billion.
The signature ceremony took place this Tuesday at the end of the day, at the Palais des Expositions des Pins-Maritimes (SAFEX), in the presence in particular of the Minister of Foreign Trade and the Promotion of Exports, Kamel Rezig, the Minister of Internal Trade and regulation of the national market, Tayeb Zitouni, of the Secretary General of the Ministry of Industry, Salem Ahmed Zaid, and the Director General (AAPI), Omar Rekkache.
The acting director general of the company AQS, Sofiane Chaib Setti, said that “this important contract concluded at the end of the sixth day” of the continental IATF event will allow the company to “export to many African countries”, stressing that the signing of this contract is the result of immense upstream work. This contract will thus allow the company to expand its customer portfolio in Africa which already has a good number.
The regional manager of the Development Bank Shelter Africa, for its part, estimated that the conclusion of this contract is able to give “an impetus to the activities of the bank” which it represents and “will contribute to the strengthening of intra-African trade”, added.
