Let’s clean our schools together.
One week before the start of the school year, a vast cleaning and rehabilitation operation of schools took place this Saturday under the slogan “With the new school year, let’s clean our schools together” through all the municipalities of the capital, in order to accommodate students in optimal conditions of cleanliness and a healthy and safe study environment.
On the occasion of the launch of this cleaning campaign, the Algiers wali, Mohamed Abdenour Rabehi, gave firm instructions for the mobilization of “all human and material resources to guarantee the cleanliness and rehabilitation of schools”, said a statement from the wilaya of Algiers.
In detail, he highlighted the urgency of making the systematic cleaning of rooms, lessons and immediate surroundings of schools, while calling for paint, decoration and renovation operations.
Beyond the interior of the establishments, the first head of the wilaya highlighted the importance of a redevelopment action for external environments, considering that “a clean school and an assaini living environment constitute essential elements for quality education and a serene learning climate”.
In its directives, the wali wanted to expand reflection beyond the school year alone, recalling that the regular maintenance of infrastructure is also part of a logic of risk prevention. He urged the technical services and the Walis delegates to ensure permanent watch on the access routes to the establishments, to correct the insufficiencies observed and to ensure the fluidity of the traffic around schools.
In addition, he insisted on the implementation of anticipatory measures to deal with the risk of floods during the fall and winter seasons. This implies a sustained program for cleaning the avallitals, unclogging pipes and maintenance of rainwater drainage networks, as many essential work to guarantee the safety of students and teaching staff.
From the early hours of the morning yesterday, this initiative united a wide range of institutional and social actors. Took part in the cleaning and restoration operations of schools the Presidents of the Popular Communal Assemblies, the members of the People’s Assembly of Wilaya, as well as the managers of the public establishments of Wilaya. The mobilization also affected the associations of civil society, the committees and federations of parents of students, without forgetting the voluntary involvement of citizens.
This collective action aims through the communes of the capital to work in synergy to give a new radiance to schools in the capital, through the cleaning of classrooms, the restoration of recreation lessons and the preparation of infrastructure to offer children a worthy and reassuring learning environment.
It should be noted that this cleaning campaign is not limited to a punctual operation. According to the organizers, it also wants to be the starting point for a participatory approach where institutions and citizens combine their efforts to preserve school as a common good.
