Algerian-Chadian cooperation in the mining sector should experience a boom in the favor of a roadmap including several components on which the two parties are floor.
This roadmap will include training programs, field visits to Algerian mines, as well as the transfer of Algerian expertise to Chad through missions provided for this purpose. The general executives of this cooperation also include the exchange of scientific and technical expertise in the field of geological research through the OrgM (National Society for Geological and Mining Research), in addition The development of updated geological and mining cards.
This is what emerges from the meeting between Belkacem Soltani, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Sonarem group specializing in research and mining, with a high level delegation of the Chad State, led by the Director-General of Chadian Customs, Tahir Saleh, and Ibrahim Youssef, President and CEO of Sahara Airlines, in the presence of officials and other executives of the two parties. This meeting was held at the Sonarem headquarters, as part of the strengthening of African cooperation and the valuation of the results of the intra-African trade fair (IATF), said a press release from the Algerian group made public on Saturday evening.
The discussions focused on means of strengthening joint cooperation and building strategic partnerships based on “the historical and cultural links that unite Algeria and Chad, and on the conviction of the two parts of the need to put African skills at the service of the continent”.
The long experience of the Sonarem group in the mining field has been reviewed, since it operates more than 80 mines of various minerals (gold, phosphate, zinc, lead, iron, marble, etc.), in addition to its experience in the manufacturing industry, especially in the marble sector. There was also talk of highlighting the role of the mining sector in support for the cement industry. These presentations “open up extensions of extended cooperation with Chad to relaunch cement factories by exploiting its local resources,” said Sonarem.
The two parties also underlined the support of Chadian efforts aimed at “preparing prospective and feasibility studies to assess the economic value of mineral resources and their optimal exploitation, in addition to paving the way for Chadian capital to invest in Algeria, taking advantage of national privileges and the competitive advantages of its mineral products, thanks to the availability of energy, water and infrastructure” Added.
The Chadian delegation welcomed the advanced level of Algerian institutions such as the ENOF (national company of non -ferrous mining products and useful substances), expressing its “admiration for Algerian expertise capable of contributing to the development of the mining sector in Chad”. She stressed the importance of creating government institutions specializing in mining data management and operating license regulations, in addition to mining institutions similar to Algerian experience.
At the end of the discussions, the delegation sent an official invitation to Sonarem for an upcoming visit to Chad in order to explore its mining potential, to carry out a complete evaluation to identify the advantages and opportunities, and to develop joint solutions. The two parties also agreed to develop a memorandum of understanding and a cooperation agreement, and to continue coordination through bilateral meetings and videoconferences in order to develop a specific action plan, accompanied by precise deadlines, which embodies the commitment of the two countries to preserve the wealth of Africa and to put them at the service of the sustainable development of its populations.
