Exports from the port of Algiers recorded an increase of more than 42% in the second quarter of 2025, compared to the same period of the previous year, thanks in particular to the increase in the traffic of on -board goods excluding hydrocarbons. This is indicated by the latest assessment of the Port company of Algiers (EPAL), also raised that the stay at the quay of goods has lowered, which gives better fluidity at the level of the port enclosure.
The tonnage of exported goods increased from 307,823 tonnes between March and June 2024 to 438,668 tonnes over the same period in 2025, an increase of 42.51 %, added the same source. Excluding hydrocarbons, containerized goods displayed growth of 31.69 % in the second quarter, it is specified.
At the same time, the traffic of landed goods increased by 15.99 % compared to the second quarter of 2024, going from 1,703 million tonnes to 1.976 million tonnes, due in particular to the importation into large number of sheep intended for the sacrifice of Eid El-Adha, according to the explanations of EPAL.
Thus, the overall traffic of goods treated by EPAL reached 2.414 million tonnes in the second quarter of 2025, against 2.011 million tonnes a year earlier, or growth of 20 %.
The March-June 2025 period was also marked by a strong crowd of travelers, with a total of 79,356 passengers against 56,737 in the second quarter of 2024, representing an increase of 39.87 %, explained in particular by the competitive prices offered by new maritime transport companies, underlines EPAL.
Regarding the port yield, the average stay of the bend ships fell significantly, from 4.49 days in the second quarter of 2024 to 3.44 days during the same period of 2025, a decrease of 1.05 days.
This performance “testifies to the acceleration of the factories of handling of our teams as well as optimal management of our resources, both human and material, in particular since the launch in February 2025 of continuous work (24 hours a day, 7 days a week), in accordance with the instructions of the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune”, wanted to note the port company.
