In the aftermath of the official announcement of the new government led by Prime Minister Sifi Ghrieb, the members of the new executive began, this Monday, the traditional passing ceremony with their respective predecessors. A protocol but essential step to mark the effective start of their missions in a particularly demanding political and socio-economic context.
Among the first passations, the one held at the Ministry of Industry caught attention. Sifi Ghrieb, now Prime Minister, has sent his files to Yahia Bachir, a new portfolio holder. In his speech, Ghrieb recalled the need to “relaunch a real national industry”, calling for “redoubling efforts to advance strategic projects at the service of the national economy”.
Other shares, the Ministry of the Interior, Local Authorities and Transport, Brahim Merad, has officially gave way to Said Sayoud. The latter inherits an extended and nerve sector, at the heart of the challenges of territorial governance and improving public services. Merad, for his part, was appointed Minister of State, in charge of the inspection of state and local authorities services, a new department created to strengthen the mechanisms of control and accountability in the administration.
In this same transitional dynamic, several other passations took place in various key ministries. Kaouter Krikou was installed at the head of the Ministry of the Environment and the Quality of Life, while Nadjiba Dijilali took office at the Ministry of Relations with Parliament. In addition, Yacine Oualid succeeded Youcef Chorfa at the head of a department and agriculture.
In the energy sector, the new government configuration has introduced an unprecedented distinction between two portfolios: that of energy and renewable energies, entrusted to Mourad Adjal, and that of hydrocarbons and mines, attributed to Mohamed Arkab. This strategic separation reflects the desire to breathe new dynamic into the energy transition while capitalizing on the country’s fossil resources.
The passing ceremony of powers also took place at the Ministry of Internal Trade and the regulation of the national market, between the new minister, Amel Abdellatif, and his predecessor, Tayeb Zitouni finally, the ex Wali of Annaba, Abdelkader Djellaoui, took the reins of the Ministry of Public Works and Basic Infrastructures, succeeding Lakhdar Rekhrouk. A man in the field, Djellaoui will now have to manage the modernization of road, rail and port networks, sectors often criticized for their delays and their opaque management.
