The first edition of the Timimoun International Short Film Festival, scheduled for November 13 to 18, 2025, place youth in the heart of its organization. The festival police station, in coordination with the Directorate of Culture and the Arts of the Wilaya, announced the opening of registrations for the volunteer program intended to support the event. This was indicated on Tuesday a press release from the organizers.
The initiative aims, according to the same source, to involve young people and local skills in the success of this international cinematographic event. The candidates selected will benefit from specific training covering several components: introduction to cultural and cinematographic festivals, Timimoun heritage, reception and mediation techniques, as well as relations with the press. Field visits to the sites mobilized for the event (hotels, airport, projection rooms) are also planned.
The conditions of participation require control of Arab and English languages, prior experience in international events and a strong motivation to work in a team in a voluntary spirit. The festival highlights the value of this experience, considered as an opportunity to develop skills, to exchange with Algerian and foreign filmmakers and to collaborate with students from the Higher Institute of Cinema Mohamed-Lakhdar-Hamina. Those interested are invited to transmit their CV to: [email protected]
Placed under the patronage of the Ministry of Culture and Arts, this first edition has already aroused a remarkable craze within the international artistic scene. No less than 2,733 works were submitted by filmmakers from Africa and elsewhere, proof of the immediate attraction that this new cultural meeting arouses. The event will be held from November 13 to 18, in the heart of the Oasis de Timimoun, a unique setting that embodies the soul of the Algerian desert.
This emerging festival is an ambition to become a reference cinematographic platform, by highlighting an original aesthetic nourished by the authenticity of the Sahara and open to Africa and the world. By resolutely betting on the promotion of African cinema, he adopts an approach mixing proximity, social conscience and creative innovation. This orientation testifies to a strong desire to enhance the young talents of the continent in an accessible and meaningful framework.
The official competition is exclusively dedicated to African productions and celebrates the richness of short formats through three categories: fiction, documentary and animation. The selection is based on rigorous criteria, promoting recent works, made in 2024 or 2025, lasting 10 to 40 minutes, and representing the signing of an African country. This requirement confirms the pan -African scope of the festival, positioning Timimoun as a real artistic crossroads of the continent.
