La modernisation des transports – La Nouvelle République Algérie

Transport modernization

Experts consider the transport sector as an important element of the country’s economic and social development, but also as one of the sectors confronted in particular with many challenges in terms of satisfaction of the needs of populations in mobility and reduction of its responsibility in climate change, due to its dependence on fossil fuels. They explain that energy is a major component of transport.

In this sense, they specify, in this sector, the energy transition consists in taking into consideration the following elements: the modes of transport to favor; alternative fuels; reduction in energy consumption; reduction of GHG emissions; the organization of journeys. They recall that in Algeria, consequent efforts and investments have been made for the development of public transport of travelers (rail, metro, tram, bus). They also note that government action plans are to modernize the sub-sectors of air, sea, land and rail to improve their management and ensure better mobility.

In the airline sector, the actions have targeted the optimization of air navigation by the direct technique which consists in reducing the flight time using shorter flight trajectories than those required by the authorities and choosing roads to win on flight time according to landing against the east or west according to the wind management. They also aim for the alleviation of planes by revising the strict management of luggage by landing of the on -board lots which consists in disembarking the replacement wheels transported in the hold. In this sector, last June, an international conference on environmental sustainability in civil aviation had been organized at the headquarters of Air Algeria.

The first officials of the sector reaffirmed Algeria’s commitment to participate in all initiatives aimed at reducing carbon emissions in the aviation sector, without compromising citizens to regular and safe air transport. They recalled in this regard that aviation generates greenhouse gas, which requires an approach that takes into account the requirements of transport, all modes combined, and the need to protect the environment. They said that the sector is working, in collaboration with the various players, to the renewal of the air fleet with planes consuming less fuel and which are more efficient on the environment, while strengthening the use of alternative fuels.
