Organizing a conference on the energy transition: Algeria highlights its assets in Osaka

The national strategy exposed.

Algeria organized, this Wednesday, a scientific conference on the occasion of the Universal Expo 2025 exhibition in Osaka, Japan, devoted to the national strategy for the development of renewable energies and hydrogen. This conference entitled “Roading sheet for progress and global ambition” is part of the week “Future of the land and biodiversity”, scheduled from September 17 to 28.

The meeting, hosted by experts from the Ministry of Hydrocarbons and Mines as well as the Ministry of Energy and Renewable Energies, was followed by a day open to the Algerian pavilion, said a press release from the Ministry

During this conference, the bases of the national strategy were exposed, highlighting the achievements already achieved and the objectives set. Miloud Medjelled, Director General of Prospective at the Ministry of Hydrocarbons and Mines, said before numerous assistance that the Algerian national program aims at the production of 15,000 MW of renewable energies by 2035.

The official underlined the importance of the development of human capital, financing, investment and international cooperation, while highlighting the assets of Algeria, in particular its solar and wind potential. “Algeria attaches major importance to this area, as evidenced by the creation of a ministry dedicated to energies,” he added.

Alongside public institutions, the Société Nationale des Hydrocarbons Sonatrach marked a strong presence within the Algerian delegation in Osaka. The company took part in several activities of “the energy week”, organized within the framework of the 2025 Expo under the theme “Design the society of the future and imagine our life of tomorrow”.

Moreover, the Algerian pavilion will also house the event “Algerian energy week”, intended to highlight the country’s efforts in terms of energy, food and water safety, as well as its transition strategy to a lasting and diverse model, Sonatrach said in a distinct press release.

In this context, Sonatrach reaffirmed its role as a strategic and reliable partner on the international scene. Its representatives, Youcef Khenfar, central director of green and renewable energies, and Abdelkader Fodhil Cherif, environment director, participated in a high -level technical conference.

The debates focused on the transition to clean and durable alternatives, such as green hydrogen and renewable energies, but also on food and water safety through fertilizer production to support agriculture and desalination or recycling of water.

With this participation, Algeria intends to confirm its role as a major player in the global energy sector and contribute to the building of a cleaner, safe and sustainable future, for the benefit of future generations.

The Algerian presence in Osaka is also intended to be an international showcase intended to attract new partners and investors. By exposing its energy assets and ambitions in the field of clean energies, Algeria seeks to strengthen its cooperation with the great technological powers and to consolidate its place in the global dynamics of energy transition.
