Under the leadership of the orientations of the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, who made youth a central axis of his program and health prevention a national priority, the Minister of Youth, in charge of the Higher Youth Council, Moustafa Hidaoui, launched, this Wednesday, in Zéralda the second edition of the training camp for young mediators for drug prevention. An unprecedented initiative which is part of the 2025-2029 national strategy for the fight against this scourge.
Hidaoui immediately said: “We must support these young people in an effective and continuous manner, provide them with all the means necessary to succeed and make this experience a model nationwide. During the opening ceremony, which took place in the presence of Tarek Kour, director general of the National Office to Combat Drugs and Toxicomia, of the chief of staff to the Minister of Health and representatives of several institutions and partner organizations.
This second edition, scheduled until September 21, comes after the success recorded by the first session organized from September 11 to 16. Under the slogan “Youth of Algeria … ambition and will”, it brings together a new promotion of young people from different wilayas, all in the process of reintegration after having overcome a period of dependence.
The Minister stressed that “these young people have gone through a painful test, but they stand today standing, ready to become mediators in their communities, accompany their peers and transmit a message of hope. Their human experience is a precious tool that we must value ”.
In addition, on the sidelines of the launch, Hidaoui chaired an evaluation meeting devoted to the first edition in which he noted: “The results we have found are encouraging, but they also force us to redouble their efforts. “Adding:” We must register this approach over time, because prevention is not a slogan, it is a daily commitment. »»
In addition, the Minister wanted to recall that the fight against drugs cannot be limited to a medical approach stating that “the battle against this scourge does not begin in hospitals, but in society, within families, schools and neighborhoods. This is why we bet on prevention and awareness, and we place youth at the heart of this strategy. »»
Health clubs and listening cells
In this perspective, Hidaoui has announced that his department had already initiated the generalization of health clubs for young people and listening cells in all youth structures in the country. While supporting: “We must open our institutions, make them accessible and useful, so that they become accompanying and dialogue spaces.
Prevention is the priority axis of the national strategy 2025-2029, and we have the obligation to implement it everywhere and for all, ”he insisted.
It should be recalled that the day before, the Minister had supervised, at the International Youth Center of Sidi Fredj, the closing ceremony of the first edition. Faced with participants and their families, he had made a speech full of hope and firmness by declaring: “The fight against drugs is not reduced to treating those who are victims, it consists in preventing, alerting and building positive alternatives. This is what we do through this program. »»
The Minister also stressed that the support of his department would not be limited to the educational component, saying: “We will mobilize all our structures to support these young people, but also work with the other sectors to open economic perspectives. “He stressed that” reintegration is not decreed, it is built step by step and we will be by their side in this journey “.
Hidaoui had also announced the launch of a new initiative entitled “Ambassador young against drugs”, which would take the form of a French caravan. He explained: “These ambassadors will meet youth in all wilayas, they will bear the voice of prevention and recall that the future of Algeria can only be built on healthy, conscious and determined youth. »»
And to conclude: “Algerian youth is not a passive victim, it is a force for proposals, a force of mobilization and a force of the future. It is she who will carry the torch of prevention. »»
It should be noted that through this initiative, the department of Hidaoui intends to place young people at the center of the national response against drug addiction by mobilizing the young people themselves as actors of change and proximity relays in their communities. While calling for a general mobilization of families, institutions and civil society around this national cause.
