The draft extension of the Annaba phosphate port, which provides for the realization of a mineral quay within the framework of the integrated phosphate project, was at the center of a working meeting chaired Thursday by the Minister of Public Works and Basic Infrastructures, Abdelkader Djellaoui, which took stock of the state of progress of the site and the measures taken to accelerate the work.
This meeting is a continuation of meetings organized the day before by the Minister with the executives and managers of national groups and companies under supervision, devoted to monitoring the implementation of major strategic projects in the sector, in particular in the field of infrastructure.
Took part in Reunion The Central Managers of the Ministry, the Director General of the National Agency for the Production of Ports Infrastructure (ANRIP), project manager of the project, as well as a Algerian-Chinese consortium bringing together realization companies, including Cosider-TP, the Mediterranean of maritime work (Meditram), China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC), in addition to the CEO of the Laboratory (Lem) and the CEO of the company Alfapipe.
The director general of the ANRIP presented a detailed technical presentation on the progress of the site, highlighting certain obstacles identified during the day before discussions. The Minister, for his part, proposed operational solutions in order to accelerate the rate and guarantee the completion of the project, in particular thanks to better coordination between the actors concerned.
In this sense, the consortium of realization companies is committed to quickly providing all the necessary materials and equipment in sufficient quantities, allowing the site to operate at full capacity. He also reaffirmed his desire to ensure close and continuous coordination between all partners, in order to respect the contractual deadlines set, in accordance with the orientations of the President of the Republic.
Djellaoui has announced the creation of a monitoring unit dedicated to the project, bringing together all the actors concerned, including the central director of development of port infrastructure, representing the ministry. This cell will be responsible for strengthening control and ensuring rigorous monitoring of the different production phases.
In addition, the meeting made it possible to tackle the latest preparations linked to field visits that the Minister will make at the start of next week, in order to see the advancement of major infrastructure projects on the national level.
As a reminder, the integrated phosphate project aims to exploit the bled El Hadba (Tébessa) deposit, transform phosphate to Oued Keberit (Souk Ahras) and Hadjar Soudjar (Skikda), before exporting products via the port path, allowing Algeria to become a major global exporter and diversify the economy outside hydrocarbons. The project, led by Sonatrach and Sonarem, includes the development of mining, rail and port infrastructure, and should create thousands of jobs.
Once received, this project will also allow the transport of more than 10 million tonnes/year of phosphate extracted from Bled El Hadba, as well as its transformation, treatment and export, thus generating income up to $ 2 billion/year, as well as it will enlarge and diversify economic and commercial activities at local and national levels.
