This school year 2025-2026, placed under the slogan “School health, for a healthy and secure future”, is accompanied by a national awareness campaign, the fruit of collaboration between the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Health and the National Commission for Prevention and Fighting Cancer (CREA). It will continue until September 25.
From the first day, an inaugural course was provided in certain establishments, followed by interactive workshops and educational activities during the dedicated week. In college and high school students, we are also talking about the dangers of energy drinks, dependence on screens and the use of psychotropic substances.
But beyond the strictly health area, other major concerns are already essential in conversations: the school environment and the challenges of living together. The independent young person met students and teachers in two institutions to collect their expectations, their fears and their hopes on this unique day.
On this occasion, in front of the entrance to the Lycée Arroudj Kheireddine Barberousse resonate the sound of shoes slamming on bitumen, laughter and warm reunion after months of summer carelessness. In Ali Mellah college, in Sidi M’hamed, the decor is similar: new bags, uniforms brought back or freshly washed, timid smiles or bursts of joy. Everywhere, the looks oscillate between the hope of a serene year and the nervousness linked to uncertainties.
At the end of the lessons, at 11:45 am, a group of students from the scientific terminal discussed with entertainment. Among them, imane, 17, raised hair and clear look, says: “I feel that this return to school will be different for me. The health course was a good initiative: it helps us to understand the dangers of energy drinks, to limit the time spent in front of screens and to become aware of the risks linked to drugs. But afterwards, this will have to translate concretely. This is where I am less optimistic … Our young people know that all this is bad for them, and yet it looks like they are looking for it anyway. »»
His comrade Sofiane, a pupil in 2ᵉ year foreign letters, adds: “I find that it is very important to make young people aware of the mentioned health dangers. This initiative really deserves to be encouraged, especially with regard to drugs which, in several working -class districts, affects many students. Of course, I am not naive, I know that will not be enough to solve the problem. But it is still a great initiative. »»
On the professorial side, a biology teacher, is delighted with the adopted health dimension: “When we educate young people to their well-being, we are very happy. And then, talking about prevention is also our role. We try to do our best. »»
Mr. C …, professor of mathematics, evokes another plan: “How to spot a student in suffering, listen to him, accompany him. It is essential too. I find that teachers must listen to students, instead of always blaming them. »»
At Ali Mellah college, the contrast is striking between the innocence of the average cycle and the concerns of adolescents in full construction. Aïcha, in 1st year, holds his mother’s hand, still hesitant in front of the portal. “I’m a little sad that summer is finished, but I want to learn new things. The CEM is new to me, ”she says with a shy smile.
In the courtyard, Samy, 14, student of 4ᵉ average year, shares his opinion about the campaign: “Many of my friends drink carnations of energy drinks, in secret or not, especially before football matches or when they want to stay awake to play the console. I tasted it once and it gave me heart. I would like us to talk about it more often, because many think it’s just a drink like the others. »»
A little further, Nassim, 14, a student of 4ᵉ average year, tackles a sensitive subject without detour: “We all know that there is drug which circulates in our working -class neighborhoods, and sometimes even inside the college. Me, it scares me, because I saw comrades starting to consume psychotropic drugs. The temptation is great. Awareness is good, but that is not enough, it is above all necessary to put an end to their illegal marketing. »»
