Oran kicked off the university year 2025-2026 in its three major universities and specialized higher schools, which welcome more than 100,000 students from the whole national territory. Strategic academic pole of the west of the country, the city aims to strengthen its role in scientific research, innovation, skills training and sustainable support for the country’s economic, technological and social development.
The official ceremony took place this Monday at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Oran 1 Ahmed Ben Bella, in the commune of Sidi Chahmi, under the supervision of the wali of Oran, Samir Chibani, in the presence of many personalities and local officials.
In his speech, the rector of Oran 1 University, Abdelmalek Amine Ben, recalled that this school year wants to carry ambitions and hopes, while emphasizing the importance of seriousness and work. He underlined the need to promote the role of the university as an essential engine of national development and a real investment reservoir in human resources.
For him, the opening of the academic year is not a simple educational ritual, but an annual meeting which illustrates the constant attention of the high authorities of the country with regard to the university, called to become a locomotive of development and support of the national economy.
For its part, the wali of Oran, Samir Chibani, put forward the central place occupied by the wilaya in the university landscape. He recalled that Oran is one of the most important university centers in the country, with three major universities and several specialized higher schools attracting tens of thousands of students from different regions each year.
The wali insisted on the role that higher education should play in this Mediterranean city with growing economic and cultural influence. Speaking directly to students, he underlined the major challenge that rests on their shoulders and called them to redouble seriousness, perseverance and efforts in their studies. He urged them to cultivate the research spirit and to act with a sense of responsibility, recalling that they constitute the heirs and protectors of the nation.
Finally, Samir Chibani discussed the current challenges that require authorities, teachers, students and partners to multiply efforts to improve the quality of training and strengthen the results of scientific research. He pointed out that with regard to the rapid changes in the world, it becomes imperative to develop suitable skills and guarantee better professional integration of graduates.
