The State remains determined to bring the care of citizen closer and to grant a particular priority to the southern regions and to border areas, in particular through the improvement of the health system through the follow -up in the field, listening to citizens and health justice. This is what Mohamed Seddik Aït Messaoudene, Minister of Health, during his working visit and inspection in the wilaya of Tamanrasset and in Guezzam assured.
From the start of his visit, Aït Messaoudene said: “Health is a fundamental right guaranteed to each Algerian, wherever he is. Adding that improving the sector is by direct listening to citizens’ concerns and by constant attention to the needs of professionals.
The Minister also stressed that his department works to consolidate territorial equity, modernize infrastructure and provide establishments with material and human means adapted to needs. Stressing that “we must bring the care of the citizen closer, strengthen the quality of the services and ensure that each patient is taken care of in his region, without constraint or unnecessary displacement”.
In this context, the Minister began his tour of the deceased Moudjahid Hospital Mahmoud Guemama, with a capacity of 240 beds. This infrastructure, considered a major achievement for the wilaya of Tamanrasset, marks a turning point in the local care offer.
Aït Messaoudene has visited the various services in this establishment, like those of internal medicine, general surgery, infectious diseases, pediatrics, maternity, gynecology-obstetrics, ophthalmology, resuscitation, as well as a modern operating room of eight rooms, delivery rooms, a service of day-to-date, a day-to-day center, blood transfusion, an analysis laboratory, an emergency service and a central pharmacy.
With equipment to international standards, the hospital is called upon to play a structuring role for the region, by reducing transfers to other wilayas and ensuring modern and local care.
The Minister then inspected the site of the Tabrakat Paramedical Institute, which provides for a capacity of 300 educational places. For him, this structure represents a strategic lever to lastingly meet the needs of the wilaya in skilled human resources. Aït Messaoudene stressed that “training future paramedical frameworks on the spot is an essential condition for strengthening the local health system”. Adding that “this institute will have to become a pool of skills at the service of the inhabitants of Tamanrasset and neighboring regions”, he called to accelerate the rate of work in order to quickly put this training tool into service.
The visit continued with the inspection of the new hospital specializing in psychiatry, with a capacity of 120 beds. This infrastructure constitutes a concrete response to the specific needs of the region in terms of mental health.
So far, patients with psychiatric disorders have often had to be transferred to other wilayas, with all the difficulties that it involved for them and their families. Thanks to this new structure, they can now be taken care of on site, in better conditions. The Minister noted the importance of supporting this establishment by adapted human resources and care in accordance with national standards.
In conclusion of his visit, the Minister reiterated that the national health strategy is based on three inseparable principles, in this case proximity, modernization and equity. Supporting that “health is a right, not a privilege. Our duty is to guarantee citizens, from north to south and from east to west, equal access to care ”. He also reaffirmed his desire to promote the culture of listening, dialogue and consultation with all actors in the sector, with the aim of collectively meet the challenges and meet the legitimate expectations of citizens in matters of public health.
