During the meeting with representatives of the national media, broadcast on Friday on the national television and radio channels, President Abdelmadjid Tebboune on Friday, commented on the presence of nine women in the new government, led by Sifi Ghrieb, judging this number “too low”, and affirming its intention to “work to strengthen the presence of women in government and other positions of responsibility in the future”.
He reaffirmed his conviction as to the central role of women in society and governance in Algeria. “Our women, who fought alongside men, have the right to be their equal today and to have the same chances of leading,” he said. The head of state has recalled that in many sectors the majority of executives are now women. “Even in the start-ups, they were able to trace their way,” he said, welcoming their dynamism and their spirit of innovation. Considering that their presence in responsibility remains insufficient, he added: “Nine women to the government, it is little compared to the contribution of the Algerians to governance.” With these words, President Tebboune insists on the need to further strengthen female participation in the high decision -making spheres, considering that they can “bring more” to the country. As a reminder, the new government appointed on September 14th, markedly distinguished itself from previous governments by a massive presence of women in ministers in the number of seven) and secretaries of state (two in number). Indeed, the government has 9 women, which constitutes an impressive progression compared to previous executives. There is obviously, in this fact, the net translation of a strong political will to give more room to women in the high spheres of the State, in accordance with the commitments many times reiterated by President Tebboune.
As a reminder: Amel Abdellatif to domestic trade and regulation of the national market, Malika Bendouda, Minister of Culture and Arts, Nacima Arhab in professional training and education, Houria Meddahi, Minister of Tourism and Crafts, Soraya Mouloudji, Minister of National Solidarity, Family and Women’s Condition, Kaouthar Krikou, Minister of the Environment and Life Nadjiba Djilali, Minister of Relations with Parliament, Bakhta Salma Mansouri, Secretary of State to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, in charge of African Affairs, Karima Bakir, Secretary of State to the Minister of Hydrocarbons and Mines, responsible for mines, the appointment of women is no longer limited to social ministries.
