The Minister, wali of the wilaya of Algiers, Mr. Mohamed Abdenour Rabehi, accompanied by the Minister of National Solidarity, Family and the Status of Women, Mrs. Soraya Mouloudji, supervised, last Tuesday in Algiers, the opening of three psycho-educational centers for the benefit of mentally handicapped children.
The opening of these centers, located in the municipalities of Bologhine, Hussein Dey and Sidi M’hamed, coincides with the start of the social and school year, to meet the growing demand from parents of children with mental retardation, an autism spectrum disorder or Down syndrome. On this occasion, Mr. Rabehi welcomed the opening of these structures, recalling that in the wilaya of Algiers, “2,400 children with specific needs are taken care of by centers under the State or managed by associations.” The new centers provide support for “nearly 40% of requests”, he said, adding that the expected objective is for there to be “at least one center of this type in each administrative district of the capital”. For her part, Ms. Mouloudji stressed that these centers will be supervised by the Establishment for the management of kindergartens, crèches and nurseries in the wilaya of Algiers “Presco”, in coordination with the Directorate of Social Action and Solidarity of the wilaya of Algiers, to ensure “the care of children with specific needs and therefore devote their right to education and social integration via these equipped spaces of all material and human resources. And to specify that “new centers, currently under construction, will be opened before the end of the current year”.
The minister reiterated “the commitment of the State”, through this type of noble initiatives, to “support social action, training, education and investment in human capital, recalling that the national solidarity sector continues its action with all partners and this, “in application of the implementation of public policies aimed at guaranteeing the protection and care of all categories, without distinction or exclusion”.
