L’Algérie présente sa stratégie à Rome – Le Jeune Indépendant

The Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Fisheries, Yacine Oualid, participated, this Wednesday, in the work of the World Food Forum (WFF) and in the ministerial dialogue on South-South and tripartite cooperation, organized at the FAO headquarters in Rome (Italy), where he presented Algeria’s strategy to ensure its food security.

This international meeting constitutes an essential annual platform for exchanging experiences and discussing the major challenges of global food systems, in a context marked by climate change, increasing pressure on natural resources and the need to guarantee sustainable food security.

During his intervention in the plenary session, the minister reaffirmed Algeria’s commitment to strengthening its food security by focusing on the development of sustainable agriculture, the modernization of value chains and investment in Saharan agriculture, according to a press release from the ministry.

He also underlined the opening of the country to foreign investors, through major strategic projects such as “Baladna” and the BF project, in partnership with Italy. “Algeria’s doors are wide open to all those who wish to exploit the considerable potential of the agricultural sector, particularly in the South,” he declared.

Oualid insisted on the need to further integrate technologies in the agricultural sector in order to improve yields and optimize the use of natural resources, particularly water and energy. This orientation is part of the national strategy for rural development and the promotion of agricultural investment.

The minister also emphasized the key role of international partnerships and the exchange of expertise in scientific research and technological innovation to modernize the agricultural sector. He recalled that achieving global food security relies on strengthened cooperation between States, institutions and specialized organizations.

The minister’s presence at this forum illustrates Algeria’s desire to actively contribute to international efforts aimed at ensuring food security and meeting environmental challenges, while consolidating its position as an essential partner in sustainable agricultural development.

This edition marks an important milestone, the 80e FAO’s anniversary, celebrated through a week of global dialogue, knowledge exchange and solution-oriented collaboration, all under the theme “Hand in Hand for Better Food and Better Future”, guided by FAO’s Four Improvements: Better Production, Better Nutrition, Better Environment and Better Lives.

Organized around three pillars, the Global Youth Action, the Science and Innovation Forum, and the Hand in Hand Initiative Investment Forum, the flagship event of WFF 2025 provides a dynamic platform for bold ideas and inclusive partnerships.
