The Minister of Foreign Trade and Export Promotion, Kamel Rezig, called last Monday in Geneva (Switzerland) to strengthen international cooperation for the construction of a fairer and more open world trade system, guaranteeing the right of people to development.
Speaking during his participation in the meeting of the Group of 77 (G77) + China, held as part of the work of the 16th session of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD 16), the minister underlined Algeria’s attachment to the need to reform global economic governance and allow Africa to play a more influential role within it.
On this occasion, Mr. Rezig expressed “the pride of Algeria, as a founding member of the G77 + China, to belong to this framework which embodies the spirit of solidarity and cooperation between the countries of the South”, stressing that “the Geneva meeting was an opportunity to reaffirm our commitment to the principles of unity and collective action”.
He specified that “the countries of the South are today faced with multiple crises which particularly affect developing countries, hence the imperative to strengthen cooperation with a view to building a fairer and more open global trading system, guaranteeing the right of peoples to development and ensuring mutual benefit to all.”
The minister also stressed that Algeria “continues to support the African integration process through projects in the fields of infrastructure and energy, while reaffirming its commitment to a fair and balanced energy transition, and digital development, perceived as a fundamental lever of growth and a means of bridging the digital divide between the North and the South.”
Mr. Rezig concluded his intervention by reaffirming that “Algeria reiterates its desire to continue the work within the G77 + China and is convinced that collective action is the way to build a fairer and more equitable international economic system.”
Previously, the minister took part in the opening of the work of the 16th session of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), held from October 20 to 23 at the Palais des Nations in Geneva (Switzerland), under the theme ”Deciding the future: Carrying out an economic transformation that contributes to equitable, inclusive and sustainable development”.
