The Independent National Electoral Authority (ANIE) has launched, from the wilaya of Tamanrasset, the periodic revision of the electoral lists, which takes place from October 20 to November 18, 2025. According to its interim president, Karim Khalfane, this operation aims to “better control and make the national voter database more reliable, while allowing new registrants to participate in the next election”.
Mr. Khalfane indicated this Wednesday on National Radio that the duration of one month was set “with a view to giving sufficient time to those who wish to register or correct errors in their personal data, as well as to citizens who have changed residence to register in their new municipality”.
He added that the same procedure is applied “at the level of consulates and diplomatic representations abroad, with the mobilization of the necessary resources and close coordination between the ministries concerned”.
Furthermore, these preparations focused, according to him, on “the inventory of available resources, the updating of registers and the distribution of voter cards not yet submitted”. He specified that similar steps are being taken in diplomatic representations abroad to guarantee the success of the operation. Concerning the composition of the commissions responsible for revising the electoral lists, Mr. Khalfane explained that they will be “chaired by magistrates, on the proposal of the president of the court of each wilaya”, in accordance with an agreement concluded with the Ministry of Justice.
Each commission will include “a judge, three citizens of the municipality registered on the electoral lists and a secretary,” he said. Their mission will consist, in its own words, of welcoming citizens meeting the registration conditions, in particular “those who have reached the age of 18 on December 31, 2025”.
Furthermore, he highlighted “the role of digitalization since 2019”. “Citizens can register remotely via the Authority’s electronic platform,” he said. The interim president of ANIE further indicated that “the national electorate is estimated at 24,143,603 voters, taking into account the last exceptional revision carried out on the occasion of the presidential election”. Among them, 490,865 voters reside abroad, mainly in France, according to his remarks.
This community is spread over four large electoral zones: Paris, Marseille, Lyon and Tunis – the latter covering the African continent – while Doha covers Asia and Washington the Americas, according to him.
The speaker specified that discussions are underway with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to “expand the number of electoral zones abroad, from 8 to 12 centers”, with the aim of bringing the electoral administration closer to voters.
