Minister of Labour, Employment and Social Security, Abdelhak Saihi, received the Minister of State for Human Resources and Social Protection of the Republic of Sudan, Salima Ishaq Mohamed Al-Khalifa. The two sides stressed the importance of strengthening bilateral cooperation in the fields of labor and social protection, according to a press release issued yesterday Saturday by the ministry. During this meeting which took place at the ministry’s headquarters and which was attended by the Sudanese ambassador to Algeria and officials from both parties, Mr. Saihi spoke of “the strong historical relations between Algeria and Sudan”, emphasizing “the importance of elevating bilateral cooperation to the level of a practical and effective partnership which benefits both countries”.
The minister also reviewed “the most significant efforts made by Algeria to expand the coverage of the social security system, establish the principles of social dialogue as a strategic option and implement a comprehensive approach aimed at strengthening the economic and social rights of workers, in addition to the promotion of decent work in accordance with international standards adopted by the International Labor Organization.”
On this occasion, he mentioned
“the reforms initiated by Algeria in recent years, in particular those relating to the modernization of social protection systems, support for entrepreneurship within the framework of social justice and equal opportunities, investment in human capital and the encouragement of young people to integrate the labor market through various support mechanisms and organizations”.
For her part, the Sudanese minister welcomed the Algerian experience, expressing her country’s interest in benefiting from Algerian expertise, particularly in terms of training Sudanese human resources in the areas of work culture and safety at work, the press release added. She also reviewed the measures adopted by Sudan to maintain the viability of the social security system. On this occasion, the two ministers expressed their “common desire to intensify cooperation by activating technical coordination mechanisms and exchanging expertise and successful experiences, particularly in the areas of social security and the promotion of social dialogue, thus strengthening opportunities for social and economic development in the two countries.”
It should be noted that the meeting provided an opportunity to exchange views on ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the fields of labor and social security, serving the interests of the two peoples and strengthening the long-standing historical ties between the two countries, according to the same source.
