BREAKING – For the first time in two years Israel declares an end to the emergency status which started on October 7th, 2023:
Israel’s Defense Minister Israel Katz has announced that the emergency “special situation” in Israel’s south — first enacted on October 7, 2023 — is finally being lifted.
That designation empowered the IDF Home Front Command to impose restrictions on gatherings, close areas, and issue rapid civilian directives. While it was initially declared nationwide on October 7, it has only remained in force in the southern region for more than two years.
The order is set to expire tomorrow, marking the first time since the Hamas assault that Israel will be without an active “special situation” anywhere in the country.
“I have decided to adopt the IDF’s recommendation and to remove, for the first time since October 7, the special situation on the home front,” Katz says.
He adds that the move “reflects the new security reality in the south of the country that was achieved thanks to the determined and powerful actions over the past two years of our heroic troops against the Hamas terror organization.”
