Algerian Radio and Television celebrated, this Tuesday, the 63e anniversary of the recovery of national sovereignty over the two institutions, which coincides with October 28 of each year, during an official ceremony held at the headquarters of National Radio (ENRS) in Algiers.

On this occasion, a wreath of flowers was laid in front of the commemorative monument dedicated to this symbolic date, which marks the challenge that the Algerians of the two institutions succeeded in meeting on October 28, 1962. The ceremony took place in the presence of the Minister of Communication, Zoheir Bouamama, the Minister of Mujahideen and Rights Holders, Abdelmalek Tacherift, the advisor to the President of the Republic in charge of the General Directorate of Communication, Kamel Sidi Saïd, as well as the general director of Algerian Television. Representatives of national, Arab, African and European media organizations and institutions also took part, alongside journalists, technicians and employees of the two public establishments.

On the eve of this celebration, the Minister of Communication, Zoheir Bouamama, reiterated, during a conference organized by the National People’s Assembly (APN), under the theme “Media and communication: from the service of the Revolution to contemporary challenges”, the State’s desire to “support the national media and strengthen their professionalism”. In this regard, he highlighted “their strategic role in the face of current challenges”.

Addressing, in this sense, the issues facing the media, the minister indicated that they are called “to preserve the achievements of the new and victorious Algeria whose foundations were laid by the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune”.

In this wake, he declared that “the objective consists of completing an ambitious vision for current Algeria, aiming to strengthen a solid internal front in cohesion with the institutions of the State and the National People’s Army and to strengthen the bases of the economy in order to raise Algeria to the rank of emerging countries.”

The same speaker also called on the national media to “ensure that they convey an exemplary image of Algeria, consolidate its role and its place, defend its positions and principles, and foil all malicious plans and desperate attempts aimed at shaking its stability and unity,” calling them the country’s “first line of defense.”

Regarding the theme of the conference, the minister highlighted the mission granted to the press during the Revolution, believing that it had contributed to the formation of national consciousness and the mobilization of the people. He also highlighted “the contribution of the pioneers of Radio de la Révolution”, described as “the voice of resistant Algeria”, as well as the Agence Algérie Presse Service, presented as “a solid bulwark against the colonial narrative”.
