⛔️ PSA – Jerusalem Sealed: Highway 1 closed both ways, 500,000 expected for ‘Million Rally’
Police are bracing for a tidal wave of humanity. From tomorrow noon, Route 1—the capital’s main artery to the coastal plain—will be shut to private cars in both directions between Latrun and Ginot Saharov; entrances via Route 16 and Sha’ar HaGai are also closing. Only pre-coordinated buses get through while the rally runs mid-afternoon. Expect Jerusalem to feel physically cut off from central Israel for hours.
Inside the city, the entire gateway zone locks down: from the Chords Bridge and Shazar Boulevard through Jaffa, Sarei Yisrael, Yirmiyahu and Malchei Yisrael. Police warn of “exceptional congestion”; Route 443 stays open but will crawl. Gridlock expected not just near the entrance, but radiating across the city.
Crowd size will be massive. Authorities are preparing for up to half a million participants at the anti-draft prayer rally, which unusually unites multiple Haredi factions. The event is billed as Psalms and prayer—no speeches—with senior rabbis urging calm; Rabbi Dov Landau told followers not to be “dragged into confrontations.”
Transport Minister Miri Regev says trains and buses will be reinforced in real time to handle surges, but plan for heavy delays regardless. If you don’t absolutely need to enter the capital, don’t try; if you do, bus in early and brace for a city running on foot.
From 12:00, Route 1 closes to private cars in both directions between Latrun and Ginot Saharov; The rally itself runs 14:30–16:30.
