The Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad and African Affairs, Ahmed Attaf, had a telephone conversation this Wednesday with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China, Wang Yi, indicated a press release from the MAE. This exchange, marked by a great convergence of views, allowed the two officials to reaffirm the solidity of the traditional friendship between Algeria and China and to review the means of further strengthening the global strategic partnership linking the two countries.
According to the same source, the two officials underlined the depth of the traditional Algerian-Chinese friendship and the importance of the global strategic partnership which unites the two countries. On the Chinese side, Wang Yi argued that China and Algeria have integrated cooperation in various fields, adding that bilateral relations are developing in a stable and healthy manner under the leadership of President Xi Jinping and President Abdelmadjid Tebboune.
He also said that China is ready to work with Algeria to implement the agreements reached at bilateral summits, strengthen traditional friendship, promote mutually beneficial cooperation and uphold the fundamental interests of the two countries, so as to realize greater results in China-Algeria relations.
Wang Yi also mentioned the holding next year of the “second edition of the China-Arab States Summit” in China, described as a new historic step in Sino-Arab relations. He designated Algeria as an influential actor in the Arab world and affirmed Beijing’s desire to maintain close contact with Algiers with a view to ensuring the success of this summit.
For his part, Minister of State Ahmed Attaf highlighted the role of China as a major trade and investment partner for Algeria, stressing that the strategic orientation of the two heads of state gives a strong dynamic to bilateral relations, which actively contributes to Algerian national development. He praised China’s fair and objective position on international issues, as a permanent member of the UN Security Council, and expressed Algeria’s wish to further strengthen traditional friendship, increase practical cooperation and elevate the Algerian-Chinese comprehensive strategic partnership to a higher level.
Regarding the question of Western Sahara, Ahmed Attaf recalled Algeria’s position, to which Wang Yi responded that China’s position is constant: the political solution remains the main outcome, the UN the privileged framework, and the Security Council resolutions constitute an important basis. He insisted on dialogue and negotiation as the correct path, expressing hope that the parties concerned will intensify their communication to achieve a fair and acceptable solution for all.
