The Polisario Front will not participate in any negotiations that do not respect the right of the Sahrawi people to self-determination. This was stated by the President of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic and Secretary General of the Polisario Front, in reaction to the latest resolution of the UN Security Council.
In a speech delivered this Saturday to executives and officials of the Polisario Front and the State, Mr. Ghali expressed the desire of the Sahrawi side to cooperate constructively with the peace process, affirming that “unilateral approaches will only lead to aggravating the conflict and endangering the region.”
The Sahrawi leader stressed that the latest resolution of the United Nations Security Council expressly mentioned the people of Western Sahara and the Polisario Front, affirming that the decisive elements in the equation to resolve the Western Sahara conflict are the Sahrawi people and the Sahrawi Liberation Army, who must face the plots of the Moroccan enemy, with the help of influential parts of the Security Council.
Commenting on the last speech of the King of Morocco, the president of the SADR described it as weak, because the monarchical regime “continues to deceive the Moroccan people”, as it did during the advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice in 1975, emphasizing that Morocco exports its internal crises and tries to hide them with UN resolutions which have never been favorable to it.
Ghali took the opportunity to congratulate the brotherly people of Algeria, on the occasion of the 71st anniversary of the glorious revolution of 1er November, welcoming Algeria’s firm position regarding the just cause of Western Sahara.
Last Friday, the Polisario Front reiterated its position of principle and expressed its point of view on the latest resolution adopted by the Security Council on Western Sahara. This resolution 2797 (2025) decided to extend the mandate of the United Nations Mission for the organization of a referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO) until October 31, 2026, but includes certain elements which risk causing abuses and threats to peace and stability in the region. Shunned by Algeria, the adoption of this resolution is already described by many observers as serious slippage and a denial of international legality and the right of peoples to self-determination.
In its press release, the Polisario Front considered that “this extension of the mandate of MINURSO constitutes proof of the continued commitment of the Security Council to find a just and lasting solution, in accordance with its resolutions on Western Sahara”.
In its resolution, he further underlines, the Security Council recalls all its previous resolutions concerning Western Sahara, and reaffirms its commitment to helping the two parties achieve a just, lasting and mutually acceptable political solution, in accordance with the principles and objectives of the Charter of the United Nations, guaranteeing the self-determination of the people of Western Sahara.
According to the same statement, it is written that “the Security Council also called on both parties to participate in the discussions without preconditions and left the door open to the consideration of all proposals likely to support a final solution acceptable to both parties.
The Polisario Front adds, in the same text, that this resolution “does not take into account and does not effectively address all the substantive issues raised by the majority of member states of the Security Council and by the Polisario Front in its letter addressed to the President of the Security Council on October 23, 2025, nor in its bilateral contacts with the “pen” and all the parties concerned.”
