IDF: The Chief of the General Staff, LTG Eyal Zamir, and the Head of the Hostages and Missing Persons Headquarters, Major General (Res.) Nitzan Alon agreed on the conclusion of MG. (Res.) Alon’s tenure, at his request, after more than two years in the position.
MG. Nitzan Alon reported for reserve duty following the October 7th attack and was appointed by the Chief of Staff to head the Hostages and Missing Persons Headquarters. Under his command, the headquarters has worked to secure the return of the hostages, focusing on intelligence gathering and analysis, support for negotiations, leading and executing special operations, and maintaining ongoing contact with the families of the hostages.
The Chief of Staff thanked the Major General for his dedication to the national mission of returning the hostages, for his unique contribution to the IDF during the war, for his unwavering commitment and decisive contribution in the effort to preserve the lives of the hostages, to secure their release, and to return the deceased for burial. All this, together with everyone engaged in the sensitive and vital work of the headquarters.
MG. (Res.) Nitzan Alon will complete his term in the coming days.
The headquarters will continue to operate in full and continuous cooperation with the Coordinator for Hostages and Missing Persons, BG. (Res.) Gal Hirsch. The effort will continue in the same framework under the command of the operational commander of the headquarters, Col. Y., who has served in the headquarters since its establishment.
The Chief of General Staff views the return of the hostages as a top national mission and a moral duty, and emphasized that as long as deceased hostages remain in the Gaza Strip, the mission is not complete.
The IDF and the defense establishment will continue to pursue all efforts to bring the hostages and the fallen back home.
