2,653 fugitives from the law apprehended in three months
Rapid end of run for notorious criminals
Requested by the courts and sought by the gendarmes as part of the execution of arrest warrants issued by the various courts of the country, 2,653 fugitives from the law involved in cases of drug trafficking, intentional homicide, burglary, fraud, money laundering and assault, were apprehended between June and August 2025.
The hunt for fugitives from the law is in full swing in the country. At a time when thousands of individuals involved in criminal cases and wanted for arrest warrants issued against them by the country’s courts are running wild, the pursuit operations carried out by the gendarmes are increasingly intense. Faced with the pursuit of the gendarmes, many fugitives from the law resort to temporary rental of accommodation to hide and to try to escape the nets of the security services, while others have chosen to flee at sea, by contacting organizers of clandestine trips to Europe via makeshift boats.
Faced with the fugitives’ attempts to escape the law, and within the framework of the execution of arrest warrants issued by the various courts of the country against individuals wanted for cases linked to drug trafficking, fraud, money laundering, capital flight, corruption, murder, burglary and armed assault, elements of the National Gendarmerie were able to identify and arrest 2,653 fugitives in the space of only three months, or even between the period from June to August 2025. According to the National Gendarmerie, these fugitive individuals arrested during the period in question are made thanks, in particular, to the national identification system AFIS (Automatic Finger Identification System) which is a very formidable and very sophisticated technology in terms of automated fingerprint identification. On the run, some of the fugitives from the law who are involved in cases linked to organized crime were apprehended at the unexpected roadblocks set up by the gendarmes, while others, involved in cases of financial and economic trafficking, were apprehended through intervention operations targeting centers of crime. In this regard, and during the period from June to last August, the gendarmes carried out 1,144 intervention operations targeting centers of crime. During these operations, 65,000 identifications of people were carried out by the gendarmes, enabling the location and arrest of 290 individuals wanted for arrest warrants.
During the same period, the GN processed 7,600 cases related to personal injury, 5,047 fraud cases, 2,667 drug trafficking cases and 4,514 cases related to property damage. In the area of the fight against drug trafficking, and during the summer of 2025, the GN dismantled 60 criminal networks, arrested 246 drug traffickers and recovered 360 kg of drugs as well as 51,000 psychotropic capsules. Concerning the fight against neighborhood gangs, 436 gangsters were arrested between the period from June to August 2025, allowing the dismantling of 129 neighborhood gangs.
