Djellaoui insists on security.

Proceeding this Monday with the partial commissioning of the development and modernization project of the Kherrata gorges, located on the axis of the mythical and old RN 09 which includes, among other things, a viaduct with a length of 350 ml at the height of the blue source and another with a length of 600 ml at Bordj Mira, the Minister of Public Works and Basic Infrastructures, Abdelkader Djellaoui, gave instructions to the implementing companies so “that user safety standards are respected before the overall delivery of the project”.

This infrastructure project aims to modernize the old road over 7.6 km, with the aim of improving road safety, streamlining traffic between Béjaïa and the wilayas in the east of the country, including Sétif, reducing road accidents, especially during the summer season, and bringing it up to recent standards to contribute to the economic and tourist development of the region. The minister also inspected the modernization and rehabilitation work on the old tunnels linking the commune of Kherrata to the wilaya of Sétif, the work of which has been completed on the first tunnel.

These tunnels are currently being developed to bring them up to safety standards. In this regard, renovation and coating work is being carried out to ensure protection from rainwater infiltration, and to install a ventilation, lighting and security system as well as surveillance cameras. In addition to the redevelopment of the 7.6 km road between Kherrata and Bordj Mira, the modernization project of the old Kherrata road includes the construction of 3 viaducts of 365 meters, 4 tunnels of 1,550 m, 2,331 m of booms, 540 m of road widening with steel beams, 600 m of retaining wall and 17 culverts.

The first head of the Public Works Department also inspected the work on the last section of the highway penetrant linking Ahnif and Béjaïa between PK 16 and PK 00 at the port of Béjaïa, as well as the work on the interchange to connect the penetrant to the RN 26 in Oued-Ghir, the rate of progress of which is appreciable with the recent reinforcement of the open sites, notably that of the section linking the PK 16 and PK 11.

A presentation was presented to the minister on the work that remains to be carried out as well as the technical constraints encountered by the companies. The minister demanded a specific deadline for the delivery of the Sidi-Aïch interchange at PK 43, in order to guarantee very high efficiency in the operation of this highway.
