Promote social justice.
Algeria is determined to promote social justice, this was underlined by the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, this Wednesday, during the 2nd World Summit for Social Development which is being held from November 3 to 7 in Doha. In a letter read on his behalf by the Minister of Labor, Abdelhak Saïhi, he reaffirmed his commitment to reducing inequalities and protecting the most vulnerable through ambitious reforms aimed at building a truly inclusive society.
“Algeria’s participation in this conference aims to renew our firm commitment to the principles of solidarity and equity, and to illustrate our vision of inclusive and just development within the framework of the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals.” He specified that the country has undertaken “profound institutional, economic and social reforms, aimed at strengthening social justice and promoting global and sustainable growth”.
Saihi detailed the measures taken by Algeria in different areas. Concerning the fight against poverty, he affirmed that “Algeria has adopted a comprehensive approach based on solidarity and direct social support”, including “increasing wages, including the guaranteed national minimum wage, the creation of an unemployment benefit and the granting of tax exemptions on low incomes, as well as support for rural and agricultural development to guarantee food security”.
In the area of health and well-being, the minister stressed that “Algeria has implemented a health policy based on free care and universal access to health services.” He added that “thanks to these measures, life expectancy at birth has exceeded 79 years and the basic vaccination rate among children has reached more than 99%.”
In terms of decent work and economic growth, Saihi indicated that “Algeria has undertaken structural reforms aimed at improving the investment climate, encouraging job creation and developing the entrepreneurial spirit.” He also spoke about reducing inequalities, explaining that “we pay particular attention to social justice and equal opportunities for all, through comprehensive policies aimed at reducing social and economic disparities.” He specified that “Algeria continues its efforts to strengthen governance and transparency, while expanding the economic inclusion of vulnerable groups, integrating environmental and demographic dimensions into social policies in order to ensure their sustainability.”
Abdelhak Saihi, at the end of his speech, affirmed that “Algeria reiterates its firm commitment to social development based on justice and solidarity, as evidenced by our participation in this global event.”
