More equitable systems.
Norway, through its Development Cooperation Agency (NORAD), has announced the signing of a new four-year agreement with the African Tax Administrations Forum (ATAF). This partnership provides for the doubling of Norway’s annual base contribution to support efforts to build more efficient and equitable tax systems across the African continent.
The announcement was made the day before yesterday in Algiers, on the sidelines of the African Tax Administrations Forum (ATAF 2025), in the presence of representatives of member countries. The Norwegian embassy in Algeria, in a press release, welcomed Algeria’s hosting of this major event, considered a catalyst for strengthening African cooperation in the financial and fiscal fields.
This new convention, it was noted, reflects Norway’s strong commitment to supporting the consolidation of strong tax administrations capable of promoting sustainable development and reducing inequalities. She recalled that tax justice constitutes an essential pillar of sustainable economic growth.
The embassy also highlighted the effectiveness of the Forum, which supports African countries through capacity building programs, technical assistance and increased mobilization of local resources. ATAF also plays a key role in coordinating African positions on tax issues on a global scale and in the exchange of experiences between administrations.
Norway reaffirmed, on this occasion, its desire to consolidate its cooperation with ATAF over the coming years and to support its initiatives aimed at establishing more transparent and equitable tax systems on the continent, according to the same source.
Created to implement Norway’s international development policy, the NORAD Agency is the country’s main administrative and technical instrument for development assistance. Working closely with local and international partners, as well as on behalf of the Norwegian Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Climate and Environment, she works towards a more sustainable and just future in a world free of poverty.
NORAD’s actions are based on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, climate commitments and the promotion of human rights, which form the basis of its policies and programs. Through cooperation, knowledge sharing and expertise transfer, the agency aims to maximize the concrete impact of Norwegian aid on sustainable global development.
Its main missions include managing grants for long-term cooperation, supporting international humanitarian initiatives, as well as providing technical and professional expertise to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Norwegian diplomatic missions and the Ministry of Climate and Environment.
