The Minister of Public Works and Basic Infrastructure, Abdelkader Djellaoui, affirmed that his sector has programmed, in its medium-term strategy, several structuring projects concerning roads, structures, the railway network, and the renovation and modernization of ports and airports, adding that the 2026 finance bill (PLF) provides for commitment authorizations of 420.3 billion DA for his sector.
This announcement was made during a hearing session before the Finance and Budget Commission of the National People’s Assembly (APN), devoted to the presentation of the sectoral budget within the framework of the PLF 2026, indicated yesterday, a press release from the Assembly. Djellaoui specified that the sector has developed an action plan and a development strategy for the period 2026-2028, aimed at improving the road and motorway network, through “the creation of new essential infrastructure and upkeep and maintenance projects to strengthen development, as well as the creation of new roads in order to open up and improve access to mountainous areas, the High Plateaux and the South”.
For maritime and port infrastructure, the minister indicated that the sector will work to develop these infrastructures in line with the evolution of maritime transport, to protect the coastline and to modernize maritime infrastructure dedicated to fishing and leisure, while ensuring the maintenance of commercial ports. Regarding airport infrastructure, he revealed that the sector’s action plan provides for the maintenance and strengthening of aerodromes, and the improvement of the technical and structural characteristics of tarmacs and their associated facilities.
As for the railway network and guided transport, it is planned by 2028 “to develop the railway network according to the new program established by the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid
Tebboune, in particular the North-South railway line, but also to develop the guided transport network, by ensuring new destinations in order to improve the movement of citizens,” added the minister.
Regarding the sector’s priorities for the year 2026, Djellaoui stressed that they consisted of completing and delivering current projects, but also improving the quality of service provided by the road network, while working to “deliver the strategic projects relating to the railway network included in the program of the President of the Republic, before the deadlines set, in parallel with the launch of work on important sections on the strategic North-South line (Algiers-Tamanrasset)”.
Reviewing the main indicators of the sector’s budget for next year, the minister recalled that the commitment authorizations allocated to the sector amount to 420.3 billion DA, including 392.761 billion DA for public investments and 27.539 billion DA for operating expenses of services.
